Checked my phone today at lunch, to find the first facebook status saying:

To kill 18 elementary school children and 8 teachers...how does one have it in them?

Praying today for these families affected and the school of little children and teachers.
and...
Tragedy is everywhere today. 22 children were also slashed & stabbed by knife this morning in a Chinese elementary school. Today I mourn. You can remove every gun on the planet, but you cannot remove a man's capability for violence.

The rest of the day I felt sick at my stomach and really angry. I did my absolute best to not show it in my face and through my teaching. I couldn't help but look at my little baby kindergartners and not want to break into tears.
When I came home tonight, my family and I were glued to the news. At one point, they flashed a picture on the screen of a photograph of the children being escorted out of the school, with complete fear and terror on their faces. At that point, dad couldn't even handle watching it anymore. He walked upstairs, with tears in his eyes, saying "I'm so sick of the evil in this world". I don't see my dad tear up often, but this rocked him to his core. As it did for all of us, as we sat with lumps in our throats and tears in our eyes.

We live in such a fallen, broken world.
Quite honestly, I really don't understand it all right now.
My heart feels so incredibly heavy tonight.
My condolences and prayers go out to the hurting people, torn apart by these tragedies.
